  1. Joint Experiment IOS-4.2 • Key persons: • C Challis (JET) • P Politzer (DIII-D) • J Schweinzer (AUG) • Aims: • To make identity experiments at same * for detailed transport studies (with common and improved diagnostics) for hybrid plasmas at q95~4 • To get largest possible variation in * for confinement scaling and stability scaling studies

  2. DIII-D / JET Experiment • Experiments previously performed on DIII-D and JET • Ongoing analysis: • TRANSP interpretive simulations of DIII-D and JET experiments now complete using same profile fitting algorithm for Te, Ti, ne, nc & 

  3. AUG / JET Experiment • New hybrid experiments performed on AUG aimed at matching previous JET plasmas • Experiments led by: C Challis, E Joffrin, J Hobirk, J Schweinzer • Dates: • 17-18 May 2011 (E Joffrin & C Challis present) • 27 May 2011 • 7 July 2011 • Identity match achieved and first attempts made to obtain data at high *

  4. AUG / JET Experiment • JET plasmas: • 0.81MA/1.06T • NBI only • C wall • AUG plasmas: • 0.93MA/2.24T • NBI + central low power ECRH to mitigate W accumulation • W wall • AUG shape matched to previous JET experiments AUG 26957 2.4s JET 79633 9.0s (scaled to match a & R)

  5. AUG / JET Experiment • Good match in density and ion temperature • Electron temperature magnitude matched at ~0.5 • Normalised rotation higher in JET plasma • From TRANSP runs by G Tardini & I Jenkins

  6. Joint Experiment IOS-4.2 • Planned future work: • determine * scaling of local transport coefficients for DIII-D/JET experiments • complete analysis and journal publication of results from DIII-D/JET experiments • analyse identity match between AUG & JET • propose further hybrid experiments on AUG to add low * points to AUG/JET comparison • consider possible future comparison of JET ILW experiments with AUG
