  1. INTRODUCTION TO EBSCO’S BUSINESS SEARCH INTERFACE Presented by: Dan Mer August 4th, 2005

  2. What exactly is the Business search interface? • The Business Searching Interface (BSI) consists of four different features: • country economic data, • company profiles, • industry information and • market research.

  3. HOW TO ACCESS EBSCO’S B.S.I To access Ebsco’s Business Search Interface, first click on Ebsco Business Source Premier on our E-Resources page. Once there, click on the Business Search Interface link found on the top right corner of the page (see below).

  4. Part I.How to Access Country Economic Data • Using the browser window on the right hand side, select “Country Reports”. <

  5. Part I.Country Economic Data Once selected, you’ll be directed to the country reports page which lists all countries alphabetically. See Below.

  6. Part I.Country Economic Data • For instance, a student is researching economic data for Mexico, however, she’s having trouble finding useful sources. Using BSI, she’ll now have all these Mexican reports at her fingertips:

  7. Part I.Country Economic Data Once the desired report is found, BSI will provide the publication info and available reports by publication date.

  8. Part I.Country Economic Data As opposed to having to print a bulky report, report chapters can be selected individually. For instance, chapters like “The economy” or “The external sector” of Mexico, etc.

  9. Part II. Company Profiles To access this feature select the heading “Company profiles in the right hand browser window”. <

  10. Part II. Company Profiles As you can tell, the company profiles page offer’s a user friendly and accessible interface. Users can either browse the index or type in keywords when searching for a company.

  11. Part II. Company Profiles A student is doing research on the utilities company ConocoPhillips, and wants company data. With BSI he can access a Datamonitor report for this company >

  12. Part III. Industry information • To access this feature select the heading “Industry profiles” in the right hand browser window. <

  13. Part III. Industry information BSI is great for students looking for industry information. It’s simple to use and offers useful search results on almost any industry out there.

  14. Part III. Industry information Here are just a few examples of how many primary industry subject headings are available in BSI.

  15. Part III. Industry information For this example, the topic industry is gas stations. Using those keywords, a report excerpted from the publication “Gasoline Service Stations Industry Yearbook” appears.

  16. Part III. Industry information The ability to access industry information, (like the report seen here on gas stations) makes BSI ideal for students who need to gather financial industry data.

  17. Part IV. Market Research • The market research feature is useful for market insight and emerging trends. To locate this feature click on “Market research reports” link. <

  18. Part IV. Market Research Another way of accessing the market research feature is by selecting the “basic” tab. You’ll be directed to this easy-to-use interface.

  19. Part IV. Market Research The market research feature offers valuable insight on particular markets. This is what the market research index looks like.

  20. Part IV. Market Research For example, a student is doing research on the food market. For this topic, BSI offers useful reports entitled “Market Watch”, which discuss emerging trends in particular markets.

  21. Part V. Summary of BSI & Extra Features • The benefit I find with BSI is that all these valuable features can be found in one place. • Overall I found BSI to be an excellent addition to our E-resources collection.

  22. Part V. Summary of BSI & Extra Features • Another feature I found helpful was the sign-in feature.

  23. Part V. Summary of BSI & Extra Features Using the sign in feature student’s can store valuable search strategies and save helpful articles. I found this feature to beneficial and unique compared to other E-resources I’ve evaluated.

  24. The End • I hope this presentation helped enhance your current understanding BSI. • Any Questions?
