  1. Ivory Poaching: The Problem Of the poaching By: Larsen Klein About it! Where is this happening? All over Africa elephants are slaughtered for their tusks. How can this be stopped? Why is this happening? Whose helping and how they are helping… How to reply to this article and help…

  2. About it! Elephants everywhere (mostly in Africa) are being killed for their tusks. Ivory poaching has risen to a level not seen in 20 years! From 2005 to 2006,athourites seized about 24 tons of ivory for Asia. But that is only 10% of the illegal shipments, concluding the total- about 240 tons. All that ivory cost about 23,000 elephants their lives. IN 2002, a shipment in Singapore included 532 tusks, and 42,000 hankos, or chops. That seizure was the second largest shipment on record and the largest since 1989. About it! Where is this happening? Why is this happening? Whose helping and how they are helping… How to reply to this article and help… Power Words Hankos/chops: small blocks of solid ivory used for making signature stamps. Seizure: shipment of ivory. Even though ivory trading is illegal, people still continue to slaughter the elephants.

  3. Where is this happening? This horrible event is taking place in China, Japan, and parts of Africa, such as Zambia. You hear a lot of the trading is in Africa, and that is true, but many people smuggle ivory into Japan. It is a big problem in Singapore, too. Ivory isn’t smuggled into ALL of Japan or China, just in parts of these countries. Basically, It is mostly smuggled into Japan, Singapore, and China from Africa, but the poaching mostly takes place in Africa. About it! Where is this happening? Why is this happening? Whose helping and how they are helping… How to reply to this article and help… Power Words Smuggle: to export or import products illegally.

  4. Why is this happening? People kill elephants because the tusks are worth millions of dollars. The ivory can be made into jewelry and sold for millions of dollars. What the poachers don’t know is that because of them elephants may become extinct. Even though it is illegal to kill and elephant in Africa, people continue to slaughter them. About it! Where is this happening? Why is this happening? Whose helping and how they are helping… How to reply to this article and help… Power Words Poachers: someone who kills elephants Slaughter: To kill an animal Ivory can be turned into rare and very expensive jewelry like this bracelet.

  5. Whose helping and how they are helping… People still think ivory poaching is okay, but there are others who think it is wrong. Michael Fay, an elephant researcher, was flying over a national park in northern Congo, when he saw bunches of elephant carcasses. Another helper is Wasser, the director of the Center of Conservation Biology at the University of Washington. One thing Wasser did is that he urged western governments to help African nations. A quote of Wasser’s is: “If it really is and organized crime that’s driving this, then the only hope we have of stopping it is to stop the ivory at the source, and not let it into the international market.” About it! Where is this happening? Why is this happening? Whose helping and how they are helping… How to reply to this article and help… Power Words Carcass (es): the skeleton of a dead animal. Samuel Wasser urged governments to help African nations.
