  6. Things you should know! • Attendance Regular attendance is extremely important, as is arriving on time. The majority of Kindergarten is a hands-on experience. • Early Out Fridays AM class 8:50-10:50am & PM class 11:25-1:25pm Please notify daycare of early out days. Please be prompt when picking up your child on early out days. We are short on time between morning and afternoon sessions. • Backpack/Book Bag Please send your child with a full size backpack or book bag every day. • Food Experience We will have a food experience to reinforce our curriculum. The snack is paid for by the $15 donation from each family. • Bus Situation If you have any questions about busses or bus stops, please call transportation at 801-402-7500.

  7. Things You Should Know! • Safety • I will not send your child home with anyone that is not on your pick up list. If your child is going home a different way then usual you need to let me know with a note pinned on your child, email, or phone call. I cannot send your child home on the bus with a friend without prior arrangements being made with transportation.

  8. Homework • The homework for Kindergarten students involves two main focuses of the Kindergarten curriculum: Reading and Math. I require your child to read with you and participate in some reading and math activities. • Please read with your child each day for 10 minutes. This could be either you reading to your child or your child reading to you. Bedtime stories can also be counted. • Your involvement is encouraged because a child who has help at home retains more and has a greater incentive to do their best.

  9. Monthly calendar • A monthly calendar will be sent home a the beginning of each new month with information about what we are doing in the classroom. • Some of the information on the calendar will include the letters and words we will be studying each month, birthdays, and special activities.

  10. Kindergarten classroom management plan • Students will be expected to behave in ways that will allow everyone in our class community to learn, feel safe, and do their best. Behavior that interferes with these goals will be handled according to our discipline plan. Mistakes are seen as opportunities to grow and learn, not something to fear. Most of the discipline in the Kindergarten is very positive. It usually comes in the form of a smile, a pat on the back or a positive statement such as, I like the way Fred is sitting. Reinforcement for positive behavior is usually all that is necessary.

  11. Kindergarten classroom management (cont.) • When there is a negative behavior that cannot be ignored and a verbal reminder has been given, one or more of the following actions may occur:• A private conference is held with the child and the particular behavior is discussed.• The child is given a short time-out.• The child loses a privilege.• Parents will be notified if the particular behavior persists or is extreme. Parents, student and teacher will decide on the appropriate action to be taken.

  12. Parent volunteers • Parents are encouraged to volunteer in our classroom and our school. You and your child will benefit from this experience, even if it is for only one short visit. I need some volunteers on a weekly basis. Others may be needed occasionally. There are some things that can be done at home, if coming during the school day is not an option. I will need a few parents to accompany me on field trips. There will also be the opportunity to help with special celebrations during the year. Please check with the me to sign up for volunteer duties. I will need your help in September.

  13. Birthdays • I love to celebrate birthdays in Kindergarten. Birthdays will be integrated into the Spanish Immersion and English portion of the day. Students will sing a special birthday song in Spanish and in English. I will also provide other special activities. Contact me if you have any questions. The student may bring a store bought treat (nut free) or non-food item to pass out to the class. NOTE: Please do not send birthday invitations to school unless there are enough for each child in the class.

  14. Other important information • RECESS:Please send your child to school dressed appropriately for the weather conditions. He/she will spend time outside for recess almost every day. • PERSONAL BELONGINGS:Please mark coats, jackets, folders, and everything your child brings to school with both first and last names. Toys should be left at home. • HOME ASSIGNMENTS:Please help your child learn their address, phone number, birth date, parents’ names, how to tie their shoes, zip up their coats, and how to write their first and last names using correct handwriting procedures.

  15. Other important information • ATTITUDE:Please try to send your child to school in a happy frame of mind, and we will try to send them back the same way. • FINE MOTOR SKILLS: Give your child many opportunities to cut with scissors, use crayons, zip coats and jackets, button things, pick up small objects, use tools such as screwdrivers and hammers, and to make crafts.

  16. supplies • All of the items listed are supplies that we will use through out the school year. These are just suggested supplies you do not need to purchase them all but it would be greatly appreciated if you could donate to our classroom supplies. Please bring your supplies to school at your earliest convenience. • Glue sticks(we use these often in class). • Paper towels • Clorox wipes (District approved) • Magic erasers (good for cleaning glue and crayon marks on the tables). • Hand Sanitizer
