  1. Jan 12-13 Leo Jenner ATF, ATF2 and a Beam Diagnostics Section for the ILCCockcroft/ASTeC WorkshopILC/LHC Session Cockcroft, Liverpool/Daresbury

  2. In Brief… • Beam Delivery Systems • ATF • Laserwire • ATF2 • ILC BDS Cockcroft, Liverpool/Daresbury

  3. Linear Accelerator Beam Diagnostics Beam Delivery System: Skew Correction – to correct for earlier magnet manufacturing/positional errors Emittance Measurement Beam Switchyard – to send off-energy bunches to a beam dump Collimators –to remove off-energy particles from beam halo Beam Energy Spectrometer Cockcroft, Liverpool/Daresbury

  4. Optical design and hardware tests underway at ATF Cockcroft, Liverpool/Daresbury

  5. Laserwire • Laserwire measures forward scattered gammas and e-’s • Better resolution than wires achievable • Testing underway Cockcroft, Liverpool/Daresbury

  6. ATF2 ‘ATF has been serving as a unique test facilityfor establishing the feasibility of producing and controlling the ultra-low emittance beam that is required for linear colliders.’ Goal of ATF2: transverse focussing to 40nm Cockcroft, Liverpool/Daresbury

  7. M. Woodley, P. Tenenbaum, A. Seryi P. Raimondi D. Angal-Kalinin, L. Jenner Skew Correction Emittance Measurement Sextupoles Octopoles Final Focus Energy Spectrometer (for emergency dump) Dispersion Measurement Polarimeter Collimators Energy Spectrometer Cockcroft, Liverpool/Daresbury

  8. Optics design in MAD Energy Spectrometer:Displacement of the beam within a ‘Dog Leg’ gives the energy Skew Correction (0-130m) and Emittance Measurement (130-200m) Section: Tunable, rotated quadrupoles correct for magnet errors. Four wire scanners then measure the beam size in independent phases. – x – y Cockcroft, Liverpool/Daresbury

  9. Conclusion • ATF is and will continue to be a crucial testbed for beam optics and diagnostic equipment • Optical layouts for an ILC BDS exist… but are continually under modification • Deeper analysis underway: Propagation of energy, position, defect errors through BDS Cockcroft, Liverpool/Daresbury
