  1. International Heliophysical Year Coordinators for Solar and Inner Heliosphere Working Group: Joan Burkepile (HAO) Leonard Strachan (CfA) Nancy Crooker (BU)

  2. Solar/Inner Heliosphere W.G. Working Group Participants (from NSO mtg):

  3. Solar/Inner Heliosphere W.G. New S/IH Working Group Participants:

  4. Solar/Inner Heliosphere W.G. • Near Term Goals: • Select science topics and subgroups for possible observing campaigns • Select science topics and subgroups for possible analysis and modeling • Intermediate Goals: • Work out detailed plans for each campaign • Work out details for modeling tasks

  5. Solar/Inner Heliosphere W.G. Suggested Campaign Topics from NSO meeting: • Variation of solar minimum irradiance (cycle to cycle) • Off-limb coronal magnetic field measurements • Electron temperature measurements from electron scattered disk spectrum • Quiescent filament observations • Plage brightness & flux rope initiation • Far-side imaging of corona and magnetic fields • Chromospheric magnetic field measurements (SOLIS)

  6. Solar/Inner Heliosphere W.G. Suggested Campaign Topics (continued): • Generation of subsurface magnetic fields • Study of how subsurface flows structure the corona • Relationship of cosmic ray modulation to CMEs • Characterization of CME shocks and relationship to solar energetic particle production • H-alpha observations of sunspots, filaments & flares • Cross-cutting themes of universal processes in different solar/heliospheric environments

  7. Solar/Inner Heliosphere W.G. Links to other IHY Working Groups: • Cosmic Rays/Outer Heliosphere WG • Solar cycle variations … • Ionospheres/Magnetospheres WG • Coronal/solar wind disturbances … • Climate and Earth Atmosphere WG • Solar irradiance variations …

  8. Solar/Inner Heliosphere W.G. Issues: • Volunteers needed for: • Observation Campaign Leads • Modeling/Analysis Leads • Mission/Instrument Leads • Institutional Leads • International Contacts for Solar/Heliosphere • Incorporate new missions: Stereo, Solar-B, SDO • Possible loss of some NASA missions!
