  3. UPSC Prelims Exam Pattern The UPSC Prelims are the first step toward realizing this goal, hence thorough preparation is essential. The secret is to read each topic thoroughly because each subject and topic has a significant weight to it. The prelims exam is scheduled for 28 May,2023. Only those applicants will be permitted to sit for the Mains Exam if they achieve at least the announced cutoff in General Studies I and 33% in General Studies II in the preliminary round. Mains exam consists of 9 subject papers also candidate can choose two optional papers as well, and the full exam procedure is completed in 5-7 days. Candidates from the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Sikkim, as well as candidates with hearing impairment, are excluded from taking Paper A if they can prove that their respective board or university has exempted them from taking such second- or third-language courses. The Pattern of Personality Test (interview) This is the last and final stage of the UPSC, where candidates have to sit for an interview for the final selection. The UPSC interview stage carries a total score of 275 points. This interview can change the dynamics of a candidate's life if he performs best in it. The specific board constituted by the UPSC takes the interview. The board consists of experienced, intellectual, and observed people who judge the candidate. A few characteristics the selection committee looks for include intellectual and moral integrity, as well as mental alertness, critical capacities of absorption, clear and logical presentation, a balance of judgment, diversity, and depth of interest. Candidates should wear clean and comfortable clothes as dressing sense is also considered as the first impression as the candidates enter the room.
