  8. Hemisphere: each half of the globe8. What lines divide the hemispheres?

  9. Continent: one of seven large landmasses above the surface of the oceans 9. What two continents make up Eurasia?

  10. Absolute location • Shows exact where you are based on latitude and longitude. 10. What is the longtitude of Kahuku?

  11. Relative Location • Tells you where you are in location to where something else is. • 11. Give a relative location of North Dakota.

  12. Region: a place where characteristics are similar throughout. • As in: language, religion, ethnicity, traditions, foods, etc. • As in: climate, vegetation, wildlife, landforms, etc. 12. Could Rockwall be a region?

  13. A few types of Regions • Physical: Rocky Mountains • 13. Would you find similar wildlife, vegetation, and climate throughout most of the Rocky Mountains?

  14. Perceptual Region • are those loosely defined by people's perception –it is the mental idea or mental “map” we project on a place

  15. For example, the Bible Belt or Texas: We all ride horses to school, wear cowboy hats and say “Howdy” – right? • 14. What does your mental map tell you when you think of Hawaii or perhaps the Middle East?
