  2. Bold Goal The East Baton Rouge Parish School System will be a top 10 Louisiana district by 2020, building an innovative and globally-competitive educational choice for all families.

  3. Objective East Baton Rouge students will successfully complete a comprehensive and rigorous academic curriculum to ensure workforce and college preparedness and an appreciation for knowledge.

  4. Strategies 1. Students enter kindergarten ready to learn 2. Students are literate by 3rd grade 3. Students will enter 4th grade on time 4. Students perform at or above grade level in English/Language Arts by 8th grade. 5. Students perform at or above grade level in math by 8th grade 6. Students graduate from high school on time

Students enter kindergarten ready to learn Tactic 1: Invest early to ensure literacy for all Tactic 2: Universal pre-K with developmentally appropriate standards Tactic 3: High school parenting classes addressing developmental needs of children Tactic 4: Educational options for students that are parents and their children Tactic 5: Convene a community coalition of early childhood stakeholders to assess the needs of the community and implement appropriate programs

Students are literate by 3rd grade Tactic 1: Invest early to ensure literacy for all Tactic 2: Partner with community based literacy programs (VIPs, churches Junior League, etc.) Tactic 3: All schools will offer a literacy night to educate families about literacy development Tactic 4: Increase the proper usage of Accelerated Reader (AR) Tactic 5: Ensure teachers are applying Bloom’s Taxonomy to their instructional strategies Tactic 6: Revisit effective use of Benchmark Assessment Program (BAP or Edusoft) Tactic 7: Utilize Response to Intervention Tactic 8: Offer after school and summer program for children at risk for school failure Tactic 9: Continue Comprehensive Learning Support System efforts

Students will enter 4th gradeon time Tactic 1: Provide after-school and summer programs for children at risk for school failure Tactic 2: Invest early to ensure literacy for all (tools include Lang!, Read 180, Comprehensive Literacy Plan, and Benchmark assessment) Tactic 3: Invest early to ensure numeracy for all (tools include Fastmath, benchmark assessment) Tactic 4: Ensure teachers are applying Bloom’s Taxonomy to their instructional strategies Tactic 5: Continue implementation of Response to Intervention Tactic 6: Continue Comprehensive Learning Support System efforts

  8. 4. Students perform at or above grade level in ELA by 8th grade. Tactic 1: Raise expectations Tactic 2: Expand Read 180 and Lang! to additional schools and additional grade levels Tactic 3: Offer professional development on Common Core ELA standards to promote understanding of implementation, alignment, teaching strategies, and instructional rigor Tactic 4: Provide Core Knowledge Acceleration Program (C-KAP) for students who are behind Tactic 5: Teachers and Administrators will prioritize relationship building with students Tactic 6: Continue Comprehensive Learning Support System efforts Tactic 7: Schedule time daily for pleasure reading Tactic 8: Continue Data Driven Instruction Tactic 9: Make data available for student feedback

  10. 6. Students graduate from high school on time Tactic 1: Annually review progress toward graduation. Tactic 2: Implement programs designed to remedy below-grade level performance when identified. Tactic 3: Further develop and expand existing mentorship opportunities for students Tactic 4: Further develop career exploration and personal assessment opportunities for students to link on-time graduation with future career and learning goals.
