  3. ICPD PoA Set broad agenda: • Population, sustainable development • Migration • Environment, climate change • Education, family • Gender, women’s empowerment, violence • SRHR, safe motherhood • Youth/adolescents • Partnerships, NGOs • Costing, resource mobilization

  4. ICPD at 15 • International – Commemorative session, CPD, HLM on maternal health (Addis) • Technical – Population dynamics & climate change, Universal access to FP • Regional meetings • NGO meetings, Youth forums, Parliamentarians – IPCI • Publications, UNFPA ‘blog’

  5. 2009 • Global financial & economic crisis • Climate change • Fragile states, states in emergency situations • MDG 5 & target 5B

  6. SRHR • Move back to a PHC approach • Framework of health systems strengthening/human resources • Continuum of care • Need to reach poor & vulnerable • Integrated services • Focus on family planning • Countries perceive ICPD PoA & MDGs as one • HIV/AIDS, but limited attention to STIs

  12. Research & data collection • Strong emphasis • Need for research to be evidence-based • Disaggregated data collection including censuses & surveys

  13. Human rights • Emphasis on human rather than reproductive rights • Focus on having legislation in place and its implementation
