La tarjeta postal es un medio de comunicación escrito y visual masivo. • Tiene el objetivo de establecer una posibilidad de correspondencia postal más económica y fácil que las cartas convencionales, ya que transmite mensajes cortos, son remitidas al descubierto y sin sobre. • Son de edición pública o privada.

  3. En 1869, inicia en Austria la emisión de postales. En sus inicios eran cartulinas de colores café claro, diseñadas solamente para escribir, aunque pronto llevaron imágenes. • Se le atribuye la invención de la tarjeta postal al austriaco Hermann, catedrático en la Academia Militar.

  4. Generalmente son fabricados en cartulina rígida que pesa entre 3 y 5 grs. No obstante, se han empleado variados materiales: madera, textiles, corcho, cuero, metal, entre otros, así como en diferentes acabados. • Su forma suele ser rectangular y de tamaño variable comprendido entre 14 X 9 cm. a 15 X 10.5 cm. Pero las hay de otras formas, necesitando suajes especiales.
