History • Developedtheedoc-server oftheHumboldt-University • Started 1997 amongthefirstUniversities in Germany togiveitsstudentstheoptionofpublishing an electronic versionoftheirThesesor Dissertation • Working Group Electronic Publishing was founded1999 asjointendeavourofthe Computing Centreandthe University Library - employeesfromthe Computing Centreandthe Library areworkingtogether • LongtermPreservationandlongtermAvailabilityofthepublisheddocumentsweretopicsfromthestart: wemadethecommitmentthatthepublisheddocuments will beavailablefor 50 years • Focus isthefreeandunrestricted Access to all Documentspublished on theedoc-Server -> Open Access

Electronic Documents • Startedwith Electronic ThesesandDissertations (about 2500) • ExpandedouroffertoeJournals, Series andArticles, digitisedhistoricDocuments (altogetherabout 18000 singledocumentsavailable online) • Every Item uploadedandpublished on our Server hastobe Open-Access in Full-Text • Forevery Item wegenerate an persistentidentifier (URN-System bygermannational Library) • Usagestatisticsforeachdocument:

Current Research Projects • OpenAccess-Statistik(Central calculationofusageStatisticsforDocument-Servers forcomparability) • OpenAccess-Netzwerk(Centralised Services for OA-Repositories, like a searchover all connectedRepositoriesorduplicatechecks) • LuKII(LOCKSS and Kopal Infrastructure and und Interoperability, Development prototype, proofofconceptand via thisprojectwestarted a german LOCKSS-Network and a LOCKSS-Competence-Centre ) • EOD(ebooks on demand: digitalisationofhistoricbooks on demand, link toorder in Library catalog)
