  5. Fiction Fiction books are make-believe; they come from the imagination. Fiction books are arranged by the author’s last name.

  6. Non fiction Non fiction books contain facts and information about a wide variety of subjects—people, places, things. Non fiction books are arranged by the Dewey Decimal System.

  8. Reference section • The reference section contains many helpful books including: • Almanacs • Dictionaries • Encyclopedias • Thesauruses

  9. How to find books • You may browse. • You may use the online catalog called Destiny. • Let me show you how to • use Destiny.

  10. Spine labels will you locate books Example: FIC = fiction ROW = author Example: 921 = nonfiction section BRU = author • Every book has a spine label on its side with a call number. • The call numbers will tell youwhere in the libraryto find your book.

  12. If you cannot find a book • If your book is not on the shelf, it is most likely checked out. • You may place a hold on a book at the circulation desk. • You will need your ID card to do this.

  13. Checking Books out You may keep books for up to 3 weeks. Then you may renew. If you do not return a book on time, you will be charged a late fee of $0.05 a day. • Check books out at the circulation desk. • You MUST have your ID. • No ID = no books, • no exceptions! • You may check out up to 4 books at one time.

  14. textbooks The library also has textbooks that you may use to complete homework. You may get a textbook from the circulation desk without asking. Use it in the library then return it.

  15. Online textbooks Many of our textbooks are available online. This is especially great for those of you with two homes! Let me show you how to access the online textbooks.

  16. Library computers You may use the library computers to: Take AR tests Check your grades Research topics of interest Work on assignments Play educational games

  17. Computer rules If a computer is empty, you may use it. If all computers are full, wait your turn. Display your ID card. No ID = no computer, no exceptions Log on correctly!

  18. Cannot Log on? • Check your ID number. • Consult page 20 of your student planner. • Retype your password correctly. • If none of this works, ask for help.

  19. Acceptable use You must follow our district’s Acceptable Use Policy which you and your parents signed at registration. You are to be responsible, efficient, ethical, and legal as you use the computers and other pieces of technology.

Acceptable use • A responsible student: • Uses technology to research and complete school projects only • Uses district email to send mail to others about educational matters only • Stores information for classroom assignments and other school related materials only • Treats all computers with care

Acceptable use • A responsible user may NOT: • Login for another student or assume the identity of another user • Be involved in any form of cyber-bullying (threatening, intimidating, harassing) • Use impolite, vulgar, or abusive language • Access, download, or distribute obscene or explicit material • Misuse or abuse computer equipment

  22. warning Not being responsible while using computers on campus will result in losing access to school technology and possible disciplinary or legal action. So please follow the rules and be respectful!
