  5. What to study • Surgery • Obs/Gyne • Pediatrics • Internal Medicine • Psychiatry • Other (Epidemiology, Ethical, Legal, etc.)

What to study • Common illnesses • Things every physician should know regardless of specialty • More reflective of family medicine knowledge • Things you want/will need to know for residency • What you don’t know well (previous exam results) • Don’t worry about the random details • This is a review!

  7. What to use • MCC website • Objectives • Complete • Overwhelming • Essentials book • Good summary • Not much detail

  8. What to use • Case files • Case-based • MCQs • Toronto Notes • Lots of detail • Too much detail • No explanations

  9. What to do • Back to basics • Depends on the person • Depends on the class • Depends on the prof • Depends on the timing and how you feel • Practice exams • Library, Toronto Notes, etc. • Practice full day exam • Read up on topics that come up often or that you don’t know • Review with friends

  10. When to do it • Start NOW! • Study alone at the beginning • Do more exams as time goes on • Review in a group towards the end • Take time off (weekend, evenings)

  12. Tips for the exam • Sleep well • Eat well • Set yourself up • Read carefully • Organize your time • Don’t overanalyze

  13. After the exam • You realize you don’t know much • More studying would not have changed anything • You are afraid you failed • You are not alone • It’s done and now you have 2 months off • You will forget about it • Most people pass

  14. Remember • This is the culmination of your medical school career so take it as a challenge to overcome! • It is a very physically challenging day but you will get through it, everyone does!
