  1. The Keystones to Opportunity Grant Dissemination of Information : Using Data for Literacy Decision Making December 7, 2012

  2. The Keystone to Opportunity Grant • A federally funded grant known as the Striving Readers Grant, awarded 180 million dollars to six states nationwide. • PA was awarded 38 million. The grant is known as The Keystones to Opportunity Grant in PA. • The goal of the grant is to improve literacy for all children from birth to 12th grade.

  3. What does this mean forNorth Penn School District? • North Penn was one of 56 districts across the state that was awarded the KTO grant. • Based on a needs assessment our grant focused in on specific areas of literacy improvement identified in our needs assessment.

  4. Top Five Literacy Priorities From the Needs Assessment • Improve Pre-kindergarten to Kindergarten and Grades 4-7 transitions with appropriate data protocols and standards-aligned curricula • Strengthen partnerships to increase family literacy and engagement for all students • Develop a pool of competent trainers to model and coach PK-12 peers in literacy initiatives • Implement effective instructional strategies for English Language Learners through the use of the SIOP model K-12 • Strengthen the achievement of special education students through the use of co-teaching and universal design of learning

Our areas of focus for LITERACY IMPROVEMENT • Writing a district wide Comprehensive Literacy Plan for Pre-K – to grade 12. • The expansion of RtII to grades 4-6 at the elementary level. • Universal screeners and assessments for targeted grades. • Reading Apprenticeship for the secondary schools.

  6. The KTO grant will support the hiring of three new part- time positions for the duration of the grant. • Data Liaison Position– Mary Beth Peterson • Pre-School Outreach Coordinator – Marissa Neeson • ESL SIOP Coach K-12– Marilyn Loeffler

  7. The Classroom Environment • We will measure student engagement and the classroom environment at the pre-school level, elementary level, and the secondary level using the H.E.A.T. tool. • Student collaboration and metacognitive conversation about learning and reading. • Common language used across all classrooms to promote best practices and the improvement of student achievement

  8. With the support of the KTO Grant, RtII is moving on to 4th, 5th and 6th grade!
