  2. Key Questions • What was the inspiration for this revolution and how is this similar to the French Revolution? • Why did the people rebel? • What were the major changes that occurred?

  3. Russian Monarchy (Autocracy) • The Romanov family ruled Russia as an absolute monarchy headed by the Tzar Nicholas II and his wife the Tzarina Alexandra

  4. Seeds of a Revolution • Karl Marx author of the Communist Manifesto encouraged “the workers of the world to unite” and” to overthrow the capitalist“ • According to Marx the history of the world was a history of class struggle Brun, Essential World History

  5. Prediction • In your group review and discuss the industrial revolution and French Revolution. • From what you know of those two events predict the reasons why the Russian people will rebel against the Romanov’s reign.

  8. The November Revolution • Vladimir Lenin and the Bolsheviks overthrow the provisional government • Take Russia out of WWI • Execute the royal family • Russia becomes the USSR - United Soviet Socialist Republic (Soviet Union) in 1922
