  2. Vocabulary • Data – information, facts or numbers that describe something. • Bar Graph – compares different categories of data by showing each category as a bar whose length is related to the frequency. • Line Graph – a graph used to show how data changes over time.

  3. Using a Table In which 5-year period did the total consumption per person of dairy, fruit and vegetables increase the most? When was there a decrease in total consumption? 1980-1985 1970-1975

  4. Using a Table The data in the table shows the number of endangered species in the US as of 1998. • Which group has the least number of endangered species? • Which group has the greatest number of endangered species? • Suppose the names of the groups are listed in alphabetical order. Would questions 1 and 2 be easier or harder to answer? Arachnids Birds

  5. Bar Graph The bar graph shows the percent of US households subscribing to basic cable TV. • In which year was the percent the greatest? What was the percent? • In what year was the percent the least? What was the percent? 1995, 65% 1980, 22%

  7. Line Graph The line graph shows the cost of making a movie in different years. • During which 3 years did the average cost decrease from the prior year? • Which year showed the greatest decrease? 1987-1988, 1990-1991, 1995-1996 1995-1996
