  1. Patient safety advocacy project Group 7-a

  2. Our project is small and simple in idea , in a concept that the patient is in control of his sickness . The patient is provided by a paper or small booklet that main purposes are : 1/ what to ask about his medication (what are they , how to use it , what expected side effects ). 2/ what all his current medication and for what ? 3/ what medication not to take (allergies,chronicillnessess) 4/ past medical history , past surgical history .

  3. Summary of what we did : 1/we have organized the schedule above according to the criteria that we suggested to work on it . 2/then we discussed with the patient safety unit in KAUH about what we plan to do and they help us to improve the contents of the schedule like adding the MRN for the patient . 3/ we have selected 20 patient from KAUH to apply this project and to know if it is easy to do and if we can reach our goals to make this beneficial for the patient and also to know about the limitations and the ways to improve this project in the future .

  4. Our opinion after that : we found that applying this project is very simple and don’t take time but it need some orientation about how to write the informations in a proper way to make it easy for the patient to understand what we wrote .

  5. Limitations : 1/To complete this project we need to give this papers - that we fill it- to the patient because our major goal is patient education about their diseases and medications and also about health in general , but to do that we need approval from the hospital departments . 2/ this project need good orientation for any one who will apply it .

  6. Suggestions : 1/ make a workshop for the houseofficers in the orientatin week on how to apply this project . 2/ we can replace the paper by a small card to be easy for the patients to keep it . 3/we found that the patients need this kind of education and we think that it is the time to discuss applying it seriously .
