  2. Vasco was Born • Vasco da Gama was bon in Sines, Portugal. • The year was 1469

  3. About him • Vasco da Gama is a Portuguese sailor and was the Euorpean to find a sea route to India.

  4. His Ships • The ships were Sao Gabriel, Sao Rafael, Berrio, and the Starship. • Sao Rafael is the flagship.Vasco’s brother Paulo, commanded the ship Sao Rafael.

  5. Vasco da Gama’s 1st voyage • When Vasco da Gama set out on July 8, 1497 that was his first voyage. • He was equipped with four ships.

  6. Vasco Landed • Vasco landed in Calicut, India. • The year and date was May 20,1498.

  7. The Indian Ruler • The Indian ruler was friendly, but the Arab merchants who controlled trade with India did not want to share.

  8. Vasco Returned • He left India August 29, 1498. • He returned in Lisbon, Portugal in 1499 during the month of September.
