    6. My Teaching Style In general, I use the formal classroom style of teaching but I spice it up with a varity of other intriguing methods such as: Interactive learning through experiments and activities. (Thus “Active Chemistry”!) Cooperative learning in groups with models, worksheets and problem sets. Enduring understanding through games, demos and magic shows.

    7. This next year I will be teaching six classes of “Active chemistry”. This is a new program we are starting this year for all students and for all levels. In the past years, I have also taught: The formal courses: AP Chemistry AP Chem Seminar Chemistry I Information Technology Active Physics The fun courses Chemistry of Cooking Science and Math Skills Earth and Space Radio Broadcasting Senior Project

    8. Teams Coached at Haverford High I believe in good competition even among the academic curriculum Sports Junior Varsity Golf Boys Tennis Team Cross Country Team Academics HiQ Academic Team Science Olympiad Enviroton Team

    9. Activities Sponsored at Haverford I believe the more you are involved with a student outside the classroom the better relation you will have with that student in the classroom. Ski Club Ping-Pong Club Chess Club Theatrical Club All School play All School Talent Show Christen Prayer group Pro-Life Club

    10. My Interests “Jack of all trades - master of none” I include these so that we might find something in common. Golf Tennis Biking Hiking Flying Sailing Body Surfing Water Skiing Down Hill Skiing Cross Country Skiing Rock Climbing Chess Bridge Checkers Backgammon Card Games Board Games RC Car Racing RC airplanes Kayaking Windsurfing Movies

    11. Things Learned at MCEP this summer I will apply to my teaching next year Pogil – I was very impressed how Dr. Roberts demonstrated this in his teaching of organic chemistry. I will integrate this into the “Active Chemistry” program. I just hope I can get my kids to do half the work that I did. Lab-preps – I felt that I was far better prepared for the labs because we were required to do the pre-labs. I hope this will help my student to come to class prepared ready to do a lab. Website – This was all new for me this year and I am really excited about trying to use an interactive website for my classes and activities.
