  5. First Cut: Major Opportunities Identified • Summer courses • Two-week courses are offered in summer at most Chinese universities. • Graduate level. • IEEE-developed Summer Course on standards and standardization was suggested by both Tsinghua and BUPT. • Guest speakers on standards topics during regular semesters • Professors may feel unprepared to give a lecture on one of these topics and welcome chance to bring in an expert. • Speaker combined with packaged material would be a winning combination.

  6. Major Opportunities (cont’d) • Mini-Grants and Student Application Papers • All thought this could be very popular program in China. • Chinese translation of the flyer possible? • Clarify that standards used do not have to be IEEE. • More detail and many action items to be culled from notes and worked on with the University Outreach Ad Hoc.

  7. Future Outreach • November 2010: DeVry University. Jennifer McClain has a contact at the New Brunswick, NJ, campus. She and Susan Tatiner are hoping to visit this month. • February 2011: Chicago Workshop with the Chicago Section. Planning is underway. Amin Karim and Howard Wolfman are leading this effort. • February 2011: SA BOG is going to 3 cities in India, and university visits are being planned. India Ad Hoc and University Outreach Ad Hoc will collaborate. • Stanford U and UC Berkley: Wael Diab has contacts at both schools and is hoping to arrange visits. • March 2011: SA CAG is going to Europe and there may be time for some university visits. Susan will work with Mary Lynne Nielsen to arrange. • Summer 2011: Pilot standards course opportunity at Tsinghua University or Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunication, as discussed.
