Podcasting • A podcast is like a radio broadcast , only it is pre-recorded rather than live and is downloadable from the Internet. • The name ‘Podcast’ comes from the acronym ‘POD’, meaning ‘Playable On Demand’, while ‘cast’ is short for ‘broadcast’ – an information medium. • Podcasts have become a very popular source of information and entertainment and are freely available. • Topics of podcasts range from music to current affairs to comedy and science... There is most likely a podcast on pretty much every imaginable subject. • You can download podcasts from a variety of sources, for instance, iTunes, Soundcloud and Podcast.com.

What is in a Podcast? • A host/presenter will present the topic of the show and introduce guests. • There will be a variety of features based on the topic of the show. • Jingles/music to divide sections. • Interviews with guests. • A round-the-table debate on the subject. • The host presents a round-up of the show/final comments. • Closing music/jingle.

  4. Your Task • As a group, you will decide on a topic which you all feel strongly about. • You will each: • Choose a different aspect of the topic and script 2 minutes of material. • Submit your script as a piece of functional writing and record it as part of a group podcast. • The tone of the speech is up to you – it might be serious, emotional, funny, sarcastic, or all of these...
