  2. Common meeting on Wednesday • Very brief summary, please consult presentations on Indico for complete info M.Mikuž: TA WP 5,6,7

  3. Facilities offered under TA • WP5, DESY: test beams • WP6, CERN: test beams, PS irradiation • WP7, European Irradiation Facilities • 7.1 Jožef Stefan Institute, Slovenia • Reactor neutrons, gammas • 7.2 UC Louvain, Belgium • Accelerator neutrons & protons, gammas • 7.3 KIT, Karlsruhe, Germany • Accelerator protons M.Mikuž: TA WP 5,6,7

  10. Types of irradiation • In-core(fast&thermalneutrons) • flux 1-4 x1012 cm-2s-1 • Hardness factor ~0.9 • Sample size < 20x7x1 cm3 • Dry chamber (thermalneutrons, regenerated fast neutrons) • flux<5x108 cm-2s-1 • Bigger samples possible • In-coreoff mode (gamma) • secondary radiation of the core when reactor is off • monitored with RADFETS • 50 Rad/s max, levels off at 20 Rad/s M.Mikuž: TA WP 5,6,7

  11. Core Irradiation Channels • Mainly used for high fluence irradiations • Triangular channel (TIC) • F-19 channel • ~1016 cm-2 in one hour at full power • Lower fluences at trimmed reactor power • Dosimetry with 10 % accuracy M.Mikuž: AIDA WP7.1

  12. AIDA Projects • Transnational access covers (over 4 years) • 90 projects, • 6 hours per project • 540 h total • 54 visits • 30 % of irradiations • 2 persons per team • 3 days duration • Shipment of radioactive samples • 40 projects, 500 EUR each • Ready to accept projects as of now ! • People knocking on our door • Mail to: Marko.Mikuz@ijs.si or Vladimir.Cindro@ijs.si M.Mikuž: TA WP 5,6,7

  19. User application procedure • TA PROCEDURE (steps 1-6) • Step 1 and 2: Informal requests and application procedure • Preliminary (informal) application stage possible (e.g. contact facility coordinator and enquire about eligibility, conditions, suitability of proposal, etc.) • One common application form allowing specific information for each facility • All applications submitted through AIDA website, stored on USP sub-site of Intranet • Once per month, facility coordinators and USP are notified of applications stored on Intranet. • Facility coordinators: • DESY test beam → I. Gregor • CERN test beam → H. Breuker • CERN irradiation → H. Breuker • JSI irradiation → M. Mikuz • UCL irradiation → E. Cortina cc M. Mikuz • KIT irradiation → W. de Boer cc M. Mikuz M.Mikuž: TA WP 5,6,7

  20. User Selection Panel • Step 3: Selection procedure • Access is the responsibility of the facility coordinator, overseen by the User Selection Panel. The facility coordinator follows own selection procedure and rules for accepting proposals (complying with Annex III of the GA) • After deciding to accept a user proposal, each facility coordinator writes a short “assessment statement” and sends it to the USP AIDA-User-Selection-Panel@cern.ch with a recommendation to accept the proposal. In the case of no reaction from the panel within 1 week, the proposal is deemed approved and the user is contacted. • USP meets twice a year (via EVO conferences) to review proposals already accepted, mediate any issues from unaccepted users, and make recommendations for the next rounds e.g. favouring students over seniors, checking same users are not coming each time etc M.Mikuž: TA WP 5,6,7

  21. USP Compositon • Wim de Boer (KIT) • Horst Breuker (WP6 leader) • Eduardo Cortina Gil (UC Louvain) • Ingrid Gregor (WP5 leader) • DragoslavLaza-Lazic (CMS) • Marko Mikuž (WP7 leader + JSI) • Endorsed at the meeting • Michael Moll (WP8 leader) • Felix Sefkow (LC activity) • HenricWilkens (ATLAS) • Laurent Serin (ex-officio) • SvetlomirStavrev (ex-officio) • First meeting September 13th M.Mikuž: TA WP 5,6,7

  22. Summary • TA scheme in AIDA offers users access to • Irradiation facilities • Test beams • Procedures for TA in place • Facilities ready to accept users as of now • Message to the community: Make best use of this service ! M.Mikuž: TA WP 5,6,7
