Stage of Implementation of First and Second Cycle • The ECTS has been implemented across all UKIM members at the first and second cycles. • The Faculties and departments directed their efforts towards up-grading and modernizing curricular programs and syllabuses that introduce modular courses, which entail replacing the existing, fixed courses with obligatory, elective or optional ones. • There is evidence of a wider scope of professional profiling, greater flexibility of programs of study and concerted efforts directed at reaching compatibility with European programs in similar fields.   3. Stage of Implementation of Third Cycle • The implementation of doctoral studies is currently in its initial phase. Three study programmes of doctoral studies have been accredited up to date. • UKIM is one of the participants in the Regional centre for joint doctoral studies in engineering. Up to now, three generations of students have attended the doctoral studies and the first one has completed them.      • The doctoral studies are planed to last for 3 years, or 180 credits. This means that conditions are provided for the building-up of a new system of doctoral studies, from the present situation of individual studies co-ordinated by a mentor. PRIUM Vice-Rector prof. E.   4. Relationship between Research and Business Community • Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje has participated in establishing the European Information & Innovation Centre in Macedonia (EIICM) in 2007, part of the Enterprise Europe Network and gateway to competitiveness and innovation. • The Enterprise Europe Network is made up of close to 600 partner organisations in more than 40 countries, promoting competitiveness and innovation at the local level in Europe and beyond. The coordinator of the project consortium is the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje vice-rector for science. EIICM services are specifically designed for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) but are also available to all businesses, research centres and universities in Macedonia. PRIUM Vice-Rector prof. E.   6. Cooperation with Employers • The Ss. Cyril and Methodius University has established Business Start-up Centre in 2006 as a result of project financed by the Austrian Development Agency. The name of the project is “Skopje University Business Start-Up Centre: Through Networking to Successful Companies, (Phase I – Establishment of the Centre)”. • Several Faculties are connection between Macedonian Companies and undergraduate students for rising financial resources for Scholarships PRIUM Vice-Rector prof.   7. Quality Assurance-1 • Within the scope of the processes of change being implemented within the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje as part of the European program for institutional evaluation, particular attention has been paid to activities related to assessment, consolidation and increasing of the quality in higher education. • Two self-evaluation reports have been provided in period of 5 years. • The European association included the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University within the program for external evaluation in 2003. Following two successive visits to the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje(2002 and 2008) the expert team, appointed by the association, produced the External Evaluation Report and submitted it for the needs of the University.   8. Quality Assurance - 2 • The self-evaluation proceedings spanned in the period between 2002-2006. The entire process was given special significance and focused on the following major goals: • Identifying the changes made since the last evaluation, which was carried out in 2002. • Screening the current state, conditions, problems and the necessity for modifications. • Establishing guidelines for effectuating and implementing the UKIM reforms with a clear aim at harmonizing them with the European higher education market. Quality Assurance-3 • Students involvement in self evaluation reports • Surveys have become routine practice by UKIM members and they are carried out at the end of the winter and/or summer semester involving students as respondents who follow various programs of study. Level of Student Participation • In accordance with the legal regulations, students, as the major participants in the teaching and learning educational process, take part in all forms of university management through the Students' Union at the faculties and the University. • They are members of the managing bodies of the faculties (the dean's management and the teaching and scientific board), in the bodies of the University (the University Senate and the Rector’s Board) and in all UKIM commissions. The students have one representative in each faculty commission on self-evaluation and three representatives in the University evaluation commission. • Pursuing the efforts for strengthening the students’ place and role in 2001 for the first time at UKIM the institution student’s attorney has been established and also Book of rules for the work of the student’s attorney has been passed.      PRIUM Vice-Rector prof.
