What should rule you

What should rule you?

"Democracy is the worst form of government on earth except for all the rest." -Winston Churchill

A collectivist thought of governing

A Collectivist Thought of Governing

  • " if the legislators left persons free to follow their own inclinations, they would arrive at atheism instead of religion, ignorance instead of knowledge, poverty instead of production and exchange. While mankind tends toward evil, the legislators yearn for good; while mankind advances toward darkness, the legislators aspire for enlightenment; while mankind is drawn toward vice, the legislators are attracted toward virtue. Since they have decided that this is the true state of affairs, they then demand the use of force in order to substitute their own inclinations for those of the human race.”

  • quote from French Liberal philosopher Frederick Bastiat from his piece of work "The Law

An individualist thought of governing

An Individualist Thought of Governing

  • "If some men are entitled by right to the products of the work of others, it means that those others are deprived of rights and condemned to slave labour. Any alleged "right" of one man, which necessitates the violation of the rights of another, is not and cannot be a right. No man can have a right to impose an unchosen obligation, an unrewarded duty or an involuntary servitude on another man. There can be no such thing as "the right to enslave.” from 20th century philosopher Ayn Rand

Task

  • 1. Write down a few sentences on how each example - autocracy, communism, etc supports the “thought of governing”. For example after reading slide 2 on “A collectivist thought of governing” tell me how one of the political systems supports that statement. If you do not know what the word means look it up. This can be done on a new wiki page titled “ Different thoughts of governing” Remember to reference any direct quotes used.
