The shore!!! • Quote: he did not recognize the animal that made the sound; he did not try to, with fresh vitality he swam toward the sound, the sound of an animal in extremity of anguish and terror! • What I think: Rains ford falls off the yacht and doesn’t know what to do, but his erg to survive gets the best of him and forces him to swim. When he hears the animal screeching in pain and agony his curiosity allows him to continue his effort to get to the shore. Rains ford does not know what kind of animal it is because he does not recognize the sound and he does not know weather this animal can hurt him or not but he goes to shore anyway.

The question!?!? • Quote: “ but no animal can reason” objected rains ford. “my dear fellow there's one that cant "said the general. “but you cant mean—” gasped rains ford. • What I think: in this part of the story the general is trying to sugar coat the fact that he is a murder and he's hunting people! I think that something so shocking has made rains ford realize that not only people have feeling animals do too… and now he will try to refuse to hunt these poor sailors; never the less as much as he denies it he cant get the fact through his head that he is being hunted and that hiding and running is not going to help him very long

  4. Scary; but good sportsmanship • Quote: “rains ford,” called the general, “if you are within the sound of my voice, as I suppose you are , let me congratulate you. Not many men know how to make a Malay man-catcher.” • What I think: this part of the story I found very interesting because, the general is hunting rains ford but he complements him on his skill and hunting techniques. I think that zaroff is trying to confuse rains ford and play with his mind. The general doesn’t want rains ford to be concentrated because than he might actually have a chance of winning the game.
