  2. M&O Management Organization

  3. Management Tools • MOUs • Change Requests • PMG • DOE/NSF Review, MEG

  4. M&O WBS Organization • 11 EMU (L2 = Giorgio Apollinari, FNAL) • 12 Hcal • 13 Trigger • 14 DAQ • 15 ECAL • 16 FPix (L2 = Joel Butler, FNAL) • 17 SiTRK • 18 Common Ops (L2 = Jim Hanlon, FNAL) • 19 Operations office (L2 =Jim Hanlon) • 20 Upgrade R&D (JF) • 21 Management Reserve (JF)

  5. MOU • Each US CMS institution has annual MOU stating the work agreed upon and budget for that work. • Money is handled through FNAL PO (DOE money) or UCLA PO (NSF Money) • (Universities send invoices that are approved by L2 manager)

  6. MOU

  7. Change Request • Initiated by L2 • Approved by L1. • Above $100K approved by L0 • Submitted to PMG quarterly

  8. Change Requests Summary of last quarter change requests

  9. Quarterly Reports Program Office creates quarterly reports on S&C, M&O activities.

  10. M&O Commitment Profile

  11. Major participation by FNAL FY06 M&O ($15M including rollover) $8M on FNAL MOUs + $1.6M MR

  12. Remote Operations Center ROC • ROC designed to allow easy participation in CERN run activities • MTCC –June 06 • 2006 testbeam –July 06 • Shifts for LHC runs –2007 • Currently on 11 NW • Will migrate to 1East and be used jointly by CMS, LHC operations teams

  13. ROC Web Page http://www.uscms.org/LPC/lpc_roc/

  14. DAQ • Fermilab has two people at CERN that coordinate DAQ needs for EMU, HCAL, Trigger teststands, testbeam, Vertical Slice.

  15. LV • Fermilab has led the effort to specify the low voltage system. • Overall Low Voltage coordinator for CMS is Sergey Lusin from FNAL.

  16. Data Bases • Fermilab has leadership role in offline database. (Lee Lueking) • Key people on subdetector data bases • Umesh Joshi – pixel • Gennadiy Lukhanin – HCAL • CD Group headed by Lee (Ian’s talk)

  17. FNAL Group EMU M&O Activity • L2 M&O Management (Giorgio A.) • CSC Commissioning and Gas Managing at SX5/UXS (Prokofiev, Northaker) • Alignment System Commissioning (Eartly, Prokofiev) • R&D for SLHC CSC - New FR4 panels (Apollinari,Prokofiev) • CSC repairs at CERN (Apollinari, Prokofiev) • Organization/Managing of Slice Test at SX5 (Geurts) • Commissioning of Peripheral Crate Electronics at Building 904 (Borcherding)

  18. CSC on YE

  19. Cosmic Muon 2-station muon from SX5, read out by XDAQ, analysed by CMSSW using alignment data bases, …,. Displayed on IGUANA Event Display. May 2006

  20. FNAL Group HCAL M&O Activity • HCAL Electronics Coordination (Julie Whitmore) • Testbeam Analysis (Damgov, Esen, Green, Piperov, Vidal, Whitmore, Wu, Yetkin) • Vertical Slice Remote Operation (Damgov, Esen, Piperov, Yetkin) • Algorithm Development (Damgov, Esen, Green, Piperov, Wu, Yetkin) • Calibrations and Database coordination (Freeman, Piperov)

  22. HCAL muons at SX5

  23. HB Insertion into Magnet

  24. SX5 Now

  25. SX5 Now

  26. R&D • Limited R&D budget in each subsystem • R&D design engineer and tech to help create proposals. • Major upgrades will be global CMS enterprises. • Eventually will make formal proposals for construction funds to the agencies. WBS 20.

  27. Program Office • US CMS has 3 program offices, the main one at FNAL and two satellites: UCLA and CERN • Fermilab office has: • Jim Hanlon – Resource Manager • Sherie Landrud – Financial Officer • Terry Grozis – Office manager • Terry Read – CMS Secretary • (New Hire for 10E) • Tasks include: liason to CERN; preparing reports and reviews; generation and tracking of MOUs and POs; Oversight of US CMS finances • CERN Program Office (FNAL Personnel): • Tami Kramer. • Financial oversight, coordinate shipping, travel. • UCLA Office – manage NSF funds
