  1. Morning Geometry! Do the following: • Take out HW( Period 1 only) • Take out notes from yesterday Tonight’s HW: • Period 1: pg. 767 #6-8, 43-45; finish notes • Period 3& 4: pg 767: # 1-11, 43-45

  2. Agenda • Review HW • Finish 11.3: Arc Length (Period 3&4) • 11.3 Segment Area • Right Triangle Practice • Interactive Quiz

  3. Whiteboard Marker

  4. 11.3 Sector Area and Arc Length Now, let’s say I want to create a circular building. This building has one entrance only that creates a central angle of 50°. The radius of the building will be 125 feet. What is the arc length of the entrance? • If we are looking for arc length, what should our units be? • With your partner, discuss how you can possibly find the arc length.

  5. Arc Length • the distance among an arc measured in linear units. • The length of the crust of a pie

  6. Steps to Find Arc Length • Divide the angle of the arc by the total angle measure of a circle. • Find the circumference of the whole circle. • Multiply the two together

  7. This is basically writing a proportion!

  8. Example 2

  9. Example 2 (c): Find each arc length. Give answers in terms of  and rounded to the nearest hundredth. Circle with an arc measure of 62 in a circle with radius 2 m.

  10. Let’s Practice! Take the next 5 minutes to complete the practice problems at the bottom of your guided notes. After the 5 minutes I will call on random students to share their solutions.

  13. 11.3: Segment Area

  14. Learning Objective(s) By the end of the period you will be able to: • Find the area of a segment in a circle. • Solve problems involving right triangles and circles

  15. Whiteboards Imagine that in the middle of the room there was a circular fish tank. This fish tank has a radius of 4 m. The creator of the fish tank made a segment from R to T and and cut along that segment to make the green portion no longer a part of the tank. What is the area of the material that the creator cut off of the fish tank?

  16. Segment • Region bounded by its arc and its chord

  17. 11.3 Segment Area Steps to find Segment Area • Find the area of the sector • Find the area of the triangle • Subtract the area of the triangle from the area of the sector

  18. Whiteboard • Draw and label a 45-45-90 triangle. • Draw and label a 30-60-90 triangle

  19. 11.3 Segment Area Example 1 Find the area of the given segment to the nearest hundredth. (a) LNM (b) GHJ

  20. Whiteboards Find the area of segment RST to the nearest hundredth.

  21. Whiteboards Find the area of each segment to the nearest hundredth.

  22. Whiteboards Find the area of each segment to the nearest hundredth.
