  1. Energy Usage Presentation Siyuan Chen Bryan Egner David Pierce

  2. Table of Contents Goals The Design Process Simulation Center Questions

  3. The most important aspect of our project was adherence to the Design Process Recognize Communicate solution Define problem & gather information Specifications Analysis Evaluate Brainstorm

  4. We began the project by identifying the Need/Opportunity/Problem To develop a product that would highlight: Southern Allegheny Innovation Network (SAIN)

  5. Our purpose was to create a sustainable, and innovative showcase • This showcase would focus on Energy Usage • We developed this for Alleghany College of Maryland

  6. Periodic research identified key specifications

  7. Our concept generation/brainstorming phase yield several possible ideas • This yielded the concepts of insulation, lighting, greywater, and peak energy • We chose the “Simulation Center,” an interactive touchscreen exhibit

  8. The design phase was a repeated process and helped identify issues with concepts • The first design phase’s concept was rejected • The second design phase’s concept needed to be polished • The third design phase yielded our final concept 1st Design Phase 2nd Design Phase 3rd Design Phase

  9. The prototyping phase did not produce a physical model, instead a SketchUp representation was made

  10. We decided that a “Simulation Center” would most effectively educate and occupy participants • This simulation center would have touch screens that would maximize interaction • Costs are around $15,000 for software development, computers, and exhibits A possible touch screen for our implementation of the project

  11. Mistakes made during the project further familiarized us with the Design Process • A few of our decisions and processes were improperly timed • Mistakes will allow for Design Project II’s success

  12. Questions • Please take this time to let us answer any questions our presentation may have generated
