  1. Workshop on Training on Trust, Identifying Demand & Networking, Den Haag, 16 - 17 June 2016 ČSDA: Benefits from CESSDA Jindřich Krejčí, ČSDA jindrich.krejci@soc.cas.cz

  2. ČSDA - brief historyIn 1998 – 2011 known as the ‘Sociological Data Archive’ (SDA) • 1998 - data services launched • 2001 - membership in CESSDA • 2005 - DDI & Nesstar • 2006 - CESSDA in the ESFRI Roadmap; ESFRI asks Czech ministry for a "wish list" - CESSDA included • 2008 - 2010 - CESSDA-PPP (FP7) • 2010 - project of the Czech CESSDA node in the Czech Roadmap • 2010 - 2015 - radical expansion of SDA/CSDA data services, capacities and content of the data library • 2013 - establishment of the Consortium CESSDA and CESSDA AS; CSDA = CESSDA Service Provider

  3. Benefits from CESSDA (I.) Platform for international collaboration • Necessity of international co-operation in data archiving • international science, comparative research • Source of ideas and know-how; examples of good practice; benchmarking • Common tools and solutions (DDI, Nesstar, ELST...) • Bilateral co-operation; source of individual help and support (advices, peer-reviews ...) • Link to other important organisations (ICPSR, DDI, other infrastructures ...RDA, data cite...)

  4. Benefits from CESSDA (II.) Advocacy for social science data archiving • Source of arguments; CESSDA itself is an argument • ESFRI has changed Czech science policy: • essential role of research infrastructures • variability of RIs (not only large-scale facilities in physics) • specificity of RIs • long term sustainability • evaluation and funding can not be based on publications of their employees) • CSDA's local funding has resulted from participation of CESSDA in the ESFRI process (CSDA is part of a large-scale RI, thus eligible for funding)

  5. Benefits from CESSDA (III.) Participation in international projects • CESSDA-PPP • CESSDA SaW • SERISS • EDAN, REGIO...
