  2. Lab-on-a-Chip Project • As part of the project in ENG 1182.03, your team will: • Innovate, • Design, • Build, • Document and • Test a cheap, portable Lab-on-a-Chip (LOC) • To obtain these deliverables, you will learn important tools like: • Time management and task scheduling, • Team communications and meetings, • Fair division of labor and • Team member responsibilities

  3. Lab-on-a-Chip • Small scale chemical lab in a portable and disposable format. • Incorporates sampling, mixing, reacting, sensing, and output all in a single device. • Small sample sizes • Easier to obtain • Require smaller amounts of reagents • Disposable/Recyclable • Inexpensive materials & manufacturing techniques

  4. Relating the LOC to EDP Brainstorming design ideas Choose your design Test Solidworks drawing Modified 2nd design Build 1st design Test

  5. Deliverables (PDD section – Design Deliverables)

  6. Additional Lab Components • Nanotechnology Modules (NTM) • An integral part of your lab assignments • NTM Quizzes on Carmen • NTM modules are available on Carmen • Nanotechnology Lab Tours (Project Description Document section – Nanotech Lab Tour) • Visit various laboratories around campus • During the middle of the semester • Please read Lab Tour Summary Requirements given in the project description document • Lab Tour Summary – check course website for due dates

  7. Project Notebook • The purpose of the project notebook is to document all work undertaken by the team during the course of the semester. • Project notebook contains all information required for implementation of the project, in a sequential fashion. • The project notebook is worth 50 points • Project notebooks will be checked on a weekly basis in the Lab sessions • Final submission of Project Notebook within the first five minutes of the Poster Presentation session.
