Seminar Tips • Opening question should have multiple interpretations. • Start (or end) with a go-around question and make everyone respond. • If a student or students are dominating, give them an imposed 5 minutes of silent listening period. • If a student is breaking seminar rules, have them move out of the circle for an agreed upon period of time but stay engaged by keeping notes of the discussion. • Make the experience about the process as well as the content. Don’t be afraid to stop and correct their process. • Sometimes you have to let it flow. It may go in a direction that you would not personally choose. Then circle the conversation back to the text.
