  3. Core Classes -Math -Science -Language Arts & Social Studies (LA/SS) -Reading Exploratory Classes -PE/Health (1 period for all year) AND -Exploratory Choice -Music = Band or Choir (1 period, all year) OR -Art/Tech rotation (Each class for 1 period, 1 trimester) 6th Grade Program

  4. Lunches • 6th Graders eat together! (separate from 7th & 8th graders) • 15 minutes to eat • Bring your own lunch • Buy lunch…lots of choices! • 15 minutes to: - Keep eating - Socialize with your friends - Read a book or play games in the library - Play in the courtyard - Go to Open Gym

  5. Lockers • Every student will have their own locker! • All 6th graders have lockers in one area. • Your locker will be close to your classes. • Homework: Practice how to open a combination lock.

  6. Tips from SMS Eagles! • There is more freedom and variety in middle school. • The freedom is fun and it means you have to be more responsible. • All the worries turned out to be no big deal. • Merging schools (SES & CVES) was cool. • You don’t get recess but…you get PE every day! • Extra-curricular activities are a lot of fun.

Extra-Curricular Activitiesfor6thGrade Students • Season 1: Sept. - Oct. - Cross Country • Season 2: Oct. - Jan. - Wrestling • Season 3: Jan. – March - Soccer (Girls) • Season 4: April – June - Golf & Track • Clubs: Art Club, Yearbook, Jazz Band, Outdoor Club, Ski/Board Club, Drama Club, Photography Club, Science Club, Listening Club…

  8. Next Steps: • Return your exploratory choice form to your teacher by next Wednesday, April 20th! • Come with your parents to ‘SMS Eagle’ night on Tuesday, April 19th, 6pm. • Please come on T.B.D. for SMS orientation (pick-up your schedule, tour the school, etc.).
