  3. ACOPhys: Based on long-standing scientific collaborations (Examples) • Optical investigations on II-VI and III-V semiconductors and quantum dots in multi-layer III-V nano structures (G. Gobsch, B. V. Novikov) • Collaboration since 20+ years, funding via DAAD Leonhard-Euler-program and TU Ilmenau, official partnership TU Ilmenau - SU St. Petersburg: exchange of scientists and students • Growth and characterization of thin films and low-dimensional structures based on group III nitrids (Gobsch, Institute A.S. Ioffe, Univ. Nottingham, BSPA Minsk) • INTAS-Projekt 1995-98 • Optical spectroscopy of II-VI semiconductors and their solutions (M. Grundmann, B. V. Novikov) • NMR investigations of metallic nano particles and ferroelectrika in dielectric matrices (E. V. Charnaya, D. Michel) • Collaboration since 15+ years, funding via DAAD Leonhard-Euler-program, DFG Innovationskolleg, official partnership U Leipzig - SU St. Petersburg • NMR investigations of molecules and molecular systems at surfaces and interfaces (V. I. Chizhik, D. Michel) • Funding via DAAD Leonhard-Euler-program, SFB 294 „Molecules interacting with surfaces and interfaces”, official university partnership • Investigation of heat conduction of ceramic devices with complex geometry (S. Yu. Slavyanov, Chr. Zenger) • Since 2004.

  4. The Saint-Petersburg State University, the Technische Universität Ilmenau, the Universität Leipzig, and the Technische Universität München agree to collaborate in order to establish a Russian-German Faculty for Applied and Computational Physics at the St. Petersburg State University. This project implements decisions of the St. Petersburg Dialog between Russia and Germany and reflects the mutual interest to focus the experience in higher education and research on the practical needs of both countries. It is based on long-standing scientific collaborations between the participating German universities and the St. Petersburg State University. The signing universities support the concept developed by the Organizing Board of the Russian-German Faculty during workshops held in Ilmenau in December 2004 and in Leipzig in February 2006. ACOPhys: a research-focused, bi-national Master-of-Science program established by multilateral memorandum March 2006

  5. Principles of ACOPhys Goal: A high academic level of research and a multidisciplinary education in three 2-year Master Programs: - Semiconductor Physics and Optoelectronics - New Materials and Methods (2007) - Computational Physics Selection of students for ACOPhys on a competitive basis. Program languages are English, Russian, and German. Russian students will study German, German students in turn are required to learn the Russian language. Some requirements of the full Master Program may be fulfilled during a short-term stay in Germany. The academic part of the program at the Physics Academic and Research Center of St. Petersburg State University is supplemented by research and industrial practical work in research centers and firms in Russia or Germany. Financial support from the Russian Ministry of Education and Research, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and interested firms and organizations.

  6. Organization The St. Petersburg State University starts the Master Programs according to the rules and regulations of the Russian system of higher education. In accordance with the harmonization principles of European educational systems in the framework of the Bologna process, ECTS credit points are used to access the fulfillment of study requirements. A full Master Program requires 120 credits. The studies are completed by a master thesis. Its scientific level should correspond to that of publications in international research journals. The academic degree ``Master of Science’’ qualifies the candidate to study towards the next level of academic achievement (Candidate of Sciences or PhD).

  7. Based on many years of collaborations … … jointly exploring new territory in Science and Higher Education Applied and COmputational Physics TU Ilmenau U Leipzig TU München State University Saint Petersburg

  8. See you in Ilmenau !

  9. Organization The St. Petersburg State University has all documents and permissions necessary to start with the Master Programs according to the rules and regulations of the Russian system of higher education. In accordance with the harmonization principles of European educational systems in the framework of the Bologna process, ECTS credit points are used to access the fulfillment of study requirements. A full Master Program requires 120 credits. The scientific level of the master thesis should correspond to the scientific level of publications in international research journals. The academic degree ``Master of Science’’ qualifies the candidate to study towards the next level of academic achievement (Candidate of Sciences or PhD). Aspects of Cultural Exchange It is possible for Russian ACOPhys students to make contact with German culture via lectures of visiting professors, research/industrial practice in Germany, and collective work with German students. Russian students are also encouraged to spend a part of their educational time at one of the German partner universities. The German professors are encouraged to come to the St. Petersburg State University for at least two to three weeks to deliver lectures, make consultations, organize final examinations, develop the curricula, and to intensify research contacts.
