  3. Interthinking Talk is not just a tool for sharing information - it is a tool for thinking together We can do more than just talk to interact - we can use talk to interthink By becoming more aware of how we use talk we can begin to use it to best effect

  4. Ground rules People have to share an understanding of how to talk and behave in any situation - we are always following rules These ‘ground rules’ are rarely made explicit Good communication depends on people having shared ground rules,and using the best ones for their situation We can all think of examples where people don’t use the best ground rules!

  5. In a creative, productive dialogue, people follow these ground rules: they - • offer relevant ideas and information • ask everyone to participate • pursue the same goals • treat each other’s ideas as worthwhile – and challenge one another, respectfully • ask what everyone else thinks • ask for, and give, reasons • try to reach agreement after all ideas are aired These ground rules generate ‘Exploratory Talk’
