  1. “Apodictic Warfare” Theme: Horrors of war in “All Quiet on the Western Front” by Erich Maria Remarque & WWI poems

  2. The mothers are going through the motions, as they flick their beads, Us, ‘young heroes’, are forced to act like school girls, we shut our mouths, for an unauthorized peep would lead to kneading boots. We crouch on all fours like dogs, but some embrace the earth’s warmth, as if they were logs, ‘Iron Youth’, I spit through my clenched teeth, if only they knew, if only they knew, In a blink of an eye, we found ourselves on the frontline, but it feels as though the war is an eternal experience- Time passes by so slowly, I feel as though the hands of the clock are making its way to strike me. Wishing, waiting, watching for commanders to hand us our tickets to freedom, The run-of-the-mill regimes leave me robotic. Christmas lights illuminate the skies, they are our cue to hide, My only true friend is Mother Nature; She has been good to me Her beauty pacifies and calms me, even amongst the intensifying predicaments. The veterans know how to deal with the gas plight; the others seem to squander time, I see the valor and vexation in their eyes, if only the ‘poor devils’ were told that they would be doomed.
