  1. Stopping at Succoth & Shechem (Gen. 34)

  2. (Genesis 28:13-15) • And behold, the LORD stood above it and said: "I am the LORD God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants. "Also your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread abroad to the west and the east, to the north and the south; and in you and in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. "Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you." (NKJV)

  3. (Genesis 31:3) • Then the LORD said to Jacob, "Return to the land of your fathers and to your family, and I will be with you." (NKJV)

  4. (Genesis 28:16) • Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, "Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it." (NKJV) • (Genesis 28:22) • "And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall be God's house, and of all that You give me I will surely give a tenth to You." (NKJV)

  5. (Genesis 33:17-20) • And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, built himself a house, and made booths for his livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called Succoth. Then Jacob came safely to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padan Aram; and he pitched his tent before the city. And he bought the parcel of land, where he had pitched his tent, from the children of Hamor, Shechem's father, for one hundred pieces of money. Then he erected an altar there and called it El Elohe Israel. (NKJV)

  6. Padan-Aram Succoth Shechem Bethel

  7. (Genesis 34:1) • Now Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land. (NKJV)

  8. (Genesis 34:3) • His soul was strongly attracted to Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the young woman and spoke kindly to the young woman. (NKJV)

  9. (Genesis 28:1) • Then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him, and charged him, and said to him: "You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan. (NKJV)

  10. (Genesis 34:9-10) • "And make marriages with us; give your daughters to us, and take our daughters to yourselves. "So you shall dwell with us, and the land shall be before you. Dwell and trade in it, and acquire possessions for yourselves in it." (NKJV)

  11. (Genesis 34:12) • "Ask me ever so much dowry and gift, and I will give according to what you say to me; but give me the young woman as a wife." (NKJV)

  12. (Genesis 34:30) • Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, "You have troubled me by making me obnoxious among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites; and since I am few in number, they will gather themselves together against me and kill me. I shall be destroyed, my household and I." (NKJV)

  13. (Genesis 34:5) • And Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter. Now his sons were with his livestock in the field; so Jacob held his peace until they came. (NKJV)

  14. (Genesis 35:1-2) • Then God said to Jacob, "Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there; and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother." And Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, "Put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves, and change your garments. (NKJV)

  15. (1 Kings 18:21) • And Elijah came to all the people, and said, "How long will you falter between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him." But the people answered him not a word. (NKJV)

  16. (Deuteronomy 1:36) • 'except Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him and his children I am giving the land on which he walked, because he wholly followed the LORD.' (NKJV)

  17. (Deuteronomy 10:12) • "And now, Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, (NKJV)

  18. (Galatians 6:7-8) • Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. (NKJV)

  19. (James 1:11-16) • For no sooner has the sun risen with a burning heat than it withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beautiful appearance perishes. So the rich man also will fade away in his pursuits. Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. (NKJV)
