  1. Dohm Mystery AreaSkinner Results

  2. Datasets • 10 m/px color shaded-relief • Slope • Aspect • Multiple sun-angles • LandSat 7/4/1 (NIR/red/blue) • Aerials (1/4/16 m/px) – not as helpful

  3. Method – units • Initial reconnaissance of site and surrounding area • Identified “plains” units first • Identified “volcanic material” and “layered sedimentary sequences” as undifferentiated unit • Analyzed grouped units for discrimination

  4. Method –structure • Initial reconnaissance of site and surrounding area • Where problems arose with unit discrimination, assessed possibility of structure • Linear valleys, strata offsets, morphologic features, etc.

  5. Results • 3 material “groups” and 16 units • Volcanic materials (5 units) • Plains materials (5 units) • Layered sedimentary sequences (6 units)

  6. Results • 3 material “groups” and 16 units • Volcanic materials (5 units) • Vent material (unit v); undifferentiated flow materials (units f1 and f2); vent-specific flow materials (unit f-v), and volcanic crater material (unit c) • Plains materials (5 units) • Layered sedimentary sequences (6 units)

  7. Results • 3 material “groups” and 16 units • Volcanic materials (5 units) • Plains materials (5 units) • Very bright plains (unit pl5); moderately bright plains (unit pl4); dark plains (unit pl3); homogenized plains (unit pl2); brown plains (unit pl1) • Layered sedimentary sequences (6 units)

  8. Results • 3 material “groups” and 16 units • Volcanic materials (5 units) • Plains materials (5 units) • Layered sedimentary sequences (6 units) • Upper sequences: undifferentiated (unit l3), upper member (unit l3c), middle member (unit l3b), lower member (unit l3a) • Middle unit defined by tan marker bed (unit l2) • Lower sequences undifferentiated (unit l1)

  9. Confidence levels • Listed between 3 and 6 for each unit. For those that were <10 confidence, I gave those reasons why. • Of 16 units, 13 were highest confidence (#10), 3 were (#7)
