  1. Emerald Zone Showcases Giants of the Deep • Great Whale Tour is a network of whale displays throughout the Green Bay/White Bay region, aimed at providing an innovative and informative touring route in the Emerald Zone area • Tourists can walk around a life-size display of the whale (assembled bone structure) and learn about how the creature lived

  2. Goals: • Whale skeletons, whale displays, whale products and whale watching will transform the Emerald Zone region into the “Great Whale Coast” REDB Role: • Took the lead in this collaborative regional project: work has included regular stakeholder meetings, conducting feasibility studies and proposal research and development of a funding application

  3. Whale Bone Reconstruction

  4. Outcomes: • An estimated 80% of all tourists visiting from out of province will want to visit • Each site will act as a portal to market other tourist offerings in the zone, including other Great Whale Tour sites and existing tourist businesses. • REDB has developed a “Whales and Trails” visitor’s guide and Regional Attractions Binder and set up a Regional Tourism Committee to market the Great Whale Coast.

  5. Outcomes (continued): • Two pavilions constructed so far: • Sperm whale pavilion in Triton and Humpback whale pavilion in King’s Point. • Five other communities slated to become part of the Great Whale Tour: La Scie (minke whale), Middle Arm (blue/fin whale), Little Bay Islands (killer whale), Springdale (narwhal whale) and Westport (sowerby beaked whale)

  6. Region will continue to market “Great Whale Coast”
