  4. Timeline • 4 years of high school • 40 months • 1 year complete • Less 10 months; 30 months remain • Today is the FIRST day to establish a foundation of SUCCESS for the next 10 months • At the end of this school year, or 10 months from now, you will have 20 months of school remaining

  5. Success? What Does it Look Like? • BE PRESENT!! Every day! • BE ON TIME!! Every day! • 0840 start time • BE IN DRESS CODE!! Every day! • Khaki bottoms, collared shirt (white, green, or orange) • STUDENT ID • BE PREPARED!! Every day! • Binder, pens/pencils, notebook, assignment calendar/organizer • GIVE YOUR BEST EFFORT!! Every day! • 100% of your best effort is expected • Failure IS NOT an option in my classroom • Failure IS NOT an option for YOU

  6. Success? What Does it Look Like? • TURN IN YOUR ASSIGNMENTS!! Every Day! • Assignments are due on the established due date • EVALUATE YOUR GOALS!! • What do you expect from high school? • What do you expect out of life? • You will only get out of it what you put in! • Ask yourself regularly, “Am I meeting my own expectations? Am I accomplishing my goals?” • REVISE YOUR GOALS/PLAN • Change it up—make new goals if needed and develop a new plan to get where you want to go

Well, Ms. Williams, Things Happen! • Things happen…life gets in the way: issues at home, sick, tired, hungry, etc. • Communication is ESSENTIAL • I have an open-door policy • Have your parent/guardian contact me if you prefer • Leave me a note, raise your hand, call after school, email • vwilliams3@saisd.net • 210-661-4134 • Conference time is 3rd Period • Individual issues will be handled individually • Personal Responsibility • If you are absent, YOU are responsible for picking up missed assignments and class notes • Athletes and students in extra-curricular activities INCLUDED!

Classroom Expectations • Respect self, others, and property • Follow directions the first time they are given • Inappropriate language and remarks are not tolerated • Listen when other people speak • Write in your own notebooks/workbooks/binders • Remain seated at ALL times unless otherwise directed • Sit in your assigned seat daily • Actively participate in EVERY class • Discussion/questions/group work • Complete assignments • Follow classroom procedures for activities • Be ready to learn • Bring all books and materials to class • Be focused on the task at hand

Consequences • Consequences are the result of a person’s CHOSEN action • Positive and negative • Positive: • Praise • SPIN Bucks • Extra credit points • Homework passes • Other incentives as appropriate • Negative: • Student/Teacher conference • Parent Contact • Counselor referral • Office referral • ** Serious Violations result in an IMMEDIATE Office referral**

Grading • Assignments are worth 60% of your overall grade • Includes class work and homework • Tests are worth 40% • Assignments will be turned in! • ZAP slip • 10% of possible points will be deducted each day an assignment is late • Extra credit opportunities will be posted as they are available
