  1. BhārataDeśaHitāyaFor the well-being of Bhārata AIM FOR SEVA BAY AREA 2014

  2. AIMS – All India Movement for Seva (service) • Aims to solve a significant nationwide problem in India

  3. India’s Illiteracy Problem in Tribal Villages • More than 100 million live in tribal areas in India • Dropout rates are as high as 84% among our children in rural India • Over 42 million children aged between 4 and 15 are NOT in school

  4. Started by Swami DayanandaSaraswati in year 2000 A Movement Called AIM for Seva • India’s leading education charity for children in rural areas • Non-profit Organization under IRS 501(c)(3) • Educating rural India through the concept of Free Student Homes (FSH)

  5. Why focus on FSHs, and not on building schools? • Physical distance, economic factors and social imperatives are barriers • Building schools may solve distance, but not economic & social factors • Building more schools (in villages) is not economically viable as it requires huge infrastructure and due to lack of qualified teachers

  6. Building FSHs is a more viable solution • It addresses the problems of access, economic necessity and dysfunctional families better • The central and state governments have done well in building schools • AIM for Sevahelps existing schools function better.

  7. Each FSH is a home awayfrom home - Plus • Access– where schools are more than a km away, children use vans or buses • Personal Supervision – warden knows each child’s unique needs, keeps in touch with parents • School supplies – books, uniform, lunch box, school bag, shoes etc • Health Care – regular medical and dental care • Academic assistance – after-school support, meeting teachers • Extra-curricular activities – sports, vegetable gardening, plays.

  8. What is unique about AIM for Seva? • It takes care of the child's life care schooling needs and be ready to enter life with education, values and confidence • It takes them to the finish line! S. Muthuprakash of our FSH has done us proud by topping the school with 95.6% marks in his Class 12 board exams! A very quiet, disciplined boy, his ambition is to become a doctor and serve in rural India. Here's what this young girl, SeemaRawat from our FSH has to say about her future: "I want to become a computer engineer when I grow up. Not just that, I also want my parents and my school to feel proud of my achievements."

  9. What were the goals in 2000 when AIMS was started? • Build a FSH in each of the 600+ districts of India • Stay focused on FSH, but be open for other needs (such as schools, hospitals, vocational training centers etc.)

  10. Progress so far, and plans up to 2020

  11. Vision 2020 • Apart from expanding the network, AIM for Seva will focus on three objectives: • All-round development of children, their excellence in academics, personality and character building • In keeping with the organization’s philosophy of living in harmony with nature, all FSH will be made environmental friendly • Through distance learning and innovative learning methods, learning will be made more student- centric
