product history
Product History
  • Digital modems developed in the 1950s
  • Commercial Modems came into existence in the 1960s

  • Average internet speed in 1st world countries is 40.65 Mbps
how a modem works
How a modem works
  • Computer needs a modem to modulate digital signals
  • This will travel down phone lines
  • They then pass through a second modem
  • This will demodulate the signals back to the ISP
specifications
Specifications
  • Many different types of modems
  • Ex: USB modems, wireless modems, fax modems, direct connect modems, and on board modems
  • Speed is measured by Mbps
  • Speed of modems vary
  • Majority of providers support 30 Mbps with 1-6 mbps of bandwidth capacity
