  1. Honor Your Father How Earthly Fathers Can Honor and Be Honored by Our Heavenly Father

  2. Honor Your Father • It is appropriate to honor our earthly fathers (Mal. 1:6; Eph. 6:1-2; Heb. 12:9) • Fatherhood is a great responsibility, is greatly needed today, and is vital to all (Eph. 6:4) • What can fathers learn from God our Father (1 Cor. 8:6; Heb. 12:9; Mal. 2:10)?

  3. An Ideal Father • He knows the needs of his children (Mt. 6:8). Fathers, are we too pre-occupied to know our children’s needs? • He provides for the needs of his children (Jas. 1:17). Fathers, are we too busy to provide our children’s needs?

  4. An Ideal Father • He sacrificially loves his children (1 Jn. 3:1). Fathers, are we sacrificially loving our children? • He disciplines his children (Prov. 3:12). Fathers, are we disciplining our children?

  5. An Ideal Father • He forgives his children when they repent (Acts 2:38; 8:22). Fathers, are we forgiving (Lk. 15:22-32)? • He mercifully comforts his children (2 Cor. 1:3-4). Fathers, are we comforting?

  6. An Ideal Father • He is trustworthy toward his children (Jas. 1:17). Fathers, are we a constant and consistent influence in our children’s lives? • He commands his children (2 Jn. 4). Fathers, are we teaching our children the right way (Deut. 18:19; Eph. 6:4; 1 Thess. 2:11)?

  7. Like Father Like Son • Fathers, let us honor our Father in heaven by following his example. Fathers are truly honored when they follow the example of their heavenly Father (Mt. 5:48). • Fathers, give your children the right example to follow and something to honor (Prov. 17:6).
