  1. Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health & Science charter school CEO Report August 2013 “If you do not have a forward moving agenda, ultimately, you will be consumed by your history”

  2. NYC Charter School Performance • Like schools across the state, NYC charter schools saw their students achieve lower scores on harder test. Across the NYC charter sector, students scored at least Proficient at a higher rate than students in citywide district schools in Math (34.8% vs. 29.6%), but a lower rate in English Language Arts (25.0% vs. 26.4%) • The distribution of scores within the charter sector is noticeably wider than in years past. While many charter schools struggled, other were among the highest-performing in the city. • State Education Commissioner John King: “These proficiency scores do not reflect a drop in performance, but rather a raising of standards to reflect college and career readiness in the 21st Century.”

  3. State Test results The DRIHSCS Team has spent the recent days looking at the data for our school, the district and other charter schools. A few facts to keep in mind: • DRIHSCS is open enrollment, meaning we do not deny entry to a student based on academic standing. • DRIHSCS backfills when a student leaves our school. This means that instead of educating students for their entire careers, many of our students come to us after they have spent significant time in other, oftentimes, less rigorous educational environments. This is also true in non-entry grades as well. • The primary grade students enter our school is in 6th grade, long after they have started their educational careers, therefore a majority of our 6th graders are starting from a low level of aptitude. • Don’t be rattled by our proficiency numbers-instead, reflect on the magnitude of our challenge in preparing students that are college-ready and be energized by the important work that our school does for students in this community.

  4. DRIHSCS All Grades ELA & Math State Results

  5. 8th grade science Results • 80% of our students are Proficient (67% scored a 3, 13% scored a 4) • Our percentage will be changed to 82% because one student received an erroneous score of 37. The actual grade is 71 and will change the proficiency level from a 1to a 3. • 17% of our students scored a 2.
