  1. Act Local Project Breast Cancer 101 Blessing McCaulay

  2. Creating My Project When I heard I was supposed to do an act local project I knew I wanted to do something to benefit local women who suffer from Breast Cancer. I decided to make bracelets, sell them, and then donate the money to the National Breast Cancer foundation also known as the NBCFhere in Frisco, Texas! My Goal was to make 50 bracelets and raise $100!

  3. Breast Cancer Facts • With as little as three hours of exercise per week, or about 30 minutes a day, a woman can begin to lower her risk of breast cancer. • Smoking is a confirmed risk factor for many types of cancer. Recent research in the last year (2012) has confirmed that smoking is a contributing risk factor for developing breast cancer. Additionally, second hand smoke is also a risk factor for cancer. • Although women who have a family history of breast cancer are in a higher risk group, most women who have breast cancer have no family history. Statistically only 5-10% of individuals diagnosed with breast cancer have a family history of this disease.

  4. How NBCF Was Created The National Breast Cancer Foundation was founded in 1991 by breast cancer survivor, Janelle Hail.  At the time of her diagnosis in 1980, there was little information about the disease, and she was forced to make a decision about her health with few options. After her treatment, Janelle made a commitment to help women around the world by educating them about breast cancer and the importance of early detection.

  5. NBCF’S Mission Their mission includes increasing awareness through education, providing diagnostic breast care services for those in need, and providing nurturing support services. Through their National Mammography Program, they provide mammograms for women who are uninsured or cannot afford them.

  6. Local acts in our community For every hundred dollars that you donate to NBCF they provide a mammogram for a woman in our community. The NBCF teamed up with Parkland Hospital to help 25 women receive free mammograms and another 50 receive education about early detection. Allows local people and businesses to create fundraisers such as my own, Sabika Jewelry, Dillard’s, and Dallas Blushington Studio.

  7. The Bracelet’s Meaning The color pink means that you support the fight for the cure for Breast Cancer. The Bracelets are a symbol for women who have personally fought the disease, and for the loved ones of those women who have survived or passed away from Breast Cancer.

  8. How Bracelets Were Made We got the rubber bands at Learning Express and we used the Rainbow Loom to make the bracelets.

  12. Money Raised The mission of the National Breast Cancer Foundation depends upon the goodwill of its donors and sponsors. Planned gifts provide the resources that create extraordinary opportunities and preserve our future. I was able to raise to donate to the NBCF $104
