  1. All Systems GO!Maximising Diabetes • Management

  2. Eastern Ranges GP Association and Knox Division of General Practice hold joint funding for the ABHI:PCIP Program. Together we planned and ran a 5 session clinical education series focusing on Diabetes – All Systems GO! Maximising Diabetes Management. RACGP Active Learning Module with 40 points available to GPs who attend 6 hours of training and complete the pre-disposing and reinforcing activities.

  3. Evening events held at an external venue and included dinner. Free to attend. Sessions conducted in November 2008 and February to May 2009. 30 - 50 GPs / Practice Staffat each session. A core of participants registered early and attended all 5 sessions. Others attended one or more sessions. Other participants included Pharmacists, Dietitians and Diabetes Educators.

Diabetes Medication • Management ‘Maximised’ Topic 1: Initiating Insulin Guest Speaker: Dr Mark Stein, Endocrinologist, The Royal Melbourne Hospital Topic 2: Insulin and Devices Guest Speaker: Ms Faye Hill, Diabetes Educator NPS Case Discussion: Early use of insulin and oral anti-diabetic drugs Panel: Endocrinologist, GP, Pharmacist, Diabetes Educator Target Audience: GPs, Practice Nurses, Pharmacists & Diabetes Educators

  5. 2. Maximising Your Knowledge of the Type 2 Diabetes Risk Evaluation (Item 713) Separate events held on the same night at Community Health Services in Knox and Eastern Ranges. Included a tour of CHS, introduction to CHS staff working in diabetes care and an explanation of Lifestyle Modification Programs being run by CHS. Also featured guest speakers from GPV presenting on relevant MBS items. Target Audience: GPs, Practice Staff

  6. 3. Get to Know Your Service Providers (Meet and Greet to the Max!) • Six Allied Health Professionals each gave a 10 minute presentation on their profession and the role played in diabetes care. Professions represented were: • Optometrist • Health Coach • Podiatrist • Dietitian • Exercise Physiologist • Life! Provider (Lifestyle Modification Program) Target Audience: GPs, Practice Staff, AHPs who assist with managing patients with Diabetes

Depression and Diabetes: the Chicken and the Egg and Maximising Systems Approaches to Diabetes Management Topic 1: Depression and Diabetes Guest Speaker: Dr Lisa Engel, Health Psychologist and Credentialled Diabetes Educator, Deakin University Topic 2: Systems Approaches to Diabetes Management Guest Speaker: Dr Ralph Audehm, Director Programs And Services, Diabetes Australia-Victoria Target Audience: GPs, Practice Staff

Maxing-Out Your Knowledge of Lap Banding and Very Low Calorie Diets Topic 1: Diabetes and Very Low Calorie Diets Guest Speaker: Professor Joe Proietto, Metabolic Disorders Research Group, The University of Melbourne Topic 2: Diabetes and Lap Banding Guest Speaker: Assoc. Professor John Dixon, Obesity Research Unit, Monash University Target Audience: GPs, Practice Nurses, Pharmacists, Diabetes Educators & Dietitians

  12. Feedback & Comments A good variety of presentations that were thoroughly enjoyable … overall excellent … very well organised and speakers were very relevant. Great – usually I struggle to stay awake at evening meetings. Each speaker tonight was engaging! The most professionally run education session I have ever been asked to present at. Great to put a face to the names of some of the local Allied Health Workers / Service Providers.
