Atm forum mission and scope

ATM Forum Mission and Scope

  • Bylaws revisited and mission statement changed during 2001:

  • The mission of the Corporation is to

  • support the acceptance and implementation of Asynchronous Transfer Mode ("ATM") and other broadband technologies, applications and services, based on national and international standards, and

  • support the advancement and convergence of technologies that enhance ATM and other broadband markets.

Tiphon BOF, November 13, 2001

Next generation access ngna

Major work item in the Voice and Multimedia over ATM (VMOA) WG

initiated as follow up to the Loop Emulation Services (LES) specification, which was

done in cooperation with DSLF and technical basis for Broadband Loop Emulation Service (BLES)

done in cooperation with ETSI for V5-based protocols and adopted as DEG/SPAN-130104

LES relies on TDM interface (GR303 and V5) to and is controlled by Local Exchange

NGNA moves to NGN interfaces and control

Next Generation Access (NGNA)

Ngna objectives

NGNA (phase 1, btd-vmoa-ngna-01.04) corresponds to the "legacy terminal view" and "technical migration view" as described in the NGN-SG report

It is an objective that POTS and ISDN services are delivered to the subscriber in a way that allows the use of conventional telephony equipment by the subscriber and in a quality perceived as equal to that of today's service.

Governing principles are

Service delivery independent of the underlying transport technology.

Functions architecturally distributed over several Network Elements
