3. Employment Services The Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities is responsible for the Employment Ontario (EO) network which provides employment services and training programs Over the last few years, EO has undergone a transformation to improve and integrate services for Ontarians The new EO Network was designed to improve Employment Services (ES) with service providers now offering the full suite of EO programs in every community in Ontario. ES offers a one-stop shop where anyone walking in will receive the same access to information and quality of services needed to achieve their employment goal

4. Employment Services • The goal of ES is to help Ontarians find sustainable employment. Through a range of resources, supports and services, ES bridges the gap between the employment needs of individuals and the skilled labour needs of employers • The five components of ES provide a highly flexible tool kit of services that can be customized to an individual’s particular needs. ES is not all things to all people, and not all people will require the same supports or the support of all components • This integration of service components allows for a responsive suite of service options that are truly client-centric

Employment Services • The Employment Ontario (EO) Network is made up of ES providers who are equipped to provide information on and referrals to all EO employment and training programs • Individuals wishing to access an EO program with specific participation criteria may be required to attend an information session or meet with an employment counsellor who will assess their eligibility and suitability for the program • ES providers will assist individuals with preparing an application for submission to MTCU

9. Second Career • SC provides financial support for individuals who require skills training to assist in finding sustainable employment in occupations that are demonstrably in-demand in Ontario • Unemployed individuals must have been laid off on or after Jan. 1, 2005 • Other eligibility factors include: active job search, length of unemployment, education background, work history, labour market prospects, training request, experience and occupational skills • Skills Training can be up to 24 months with an additional 12 months available for academic upgrading

10. Apprenticeship • Apprenticeship is a combination of on-the-job and in-school training for employment in a skilled trade. • Financial supports are available for in-school training and completion incentives • Individuals who have earned a trade certificate or worked in the trade outside Canada may qualify to write the Certificate of Qualification Exam to work in Ontario. • To work in certain skilled trades you must either be a registered Apprentice or possess a valid Certificate of Qualification

11. Targeted Initiative for Older Workers • Targeted Initiative for Older Workers (TIOW) provides a range of employment activities for older workers who live in vulnerable communities and who have lost their jobs. • Unemployed workers aged 55 to 64 who are legally entitled to work in Canada who lack the skills needed to re-enter the job market and live in an eligible community can receive assistance with: • Job search assistance, networking, counselling, resume writing • Vocational and/or learning assessments, basic skills upgrading, skills training, employer-based work experience, preparation for self employment, mentoring and support • Individual TIOW Service Plan with up to 25 hours / week of individual and group programming. • Financial assistance: placement incentives, employment and training costs and supports

12. Literacy and Basic Skills • LBS provides community-based literacy, numeracy and foundation skills training to Adults who are out of school; helping them to achieve their education, training and employment goals: • LBS services support programming for the deaf as well as Anglophone, Francophone and Aboriginal learners • No cost and flexible training options (One-on-one tutoring, small-group instruction, and/or classroom instruction) • Programs offered by more than 200 agencies at 300 sites across the province: local school boards, community-based agencies, and colleges • Academic upgrading for entry into post secondary education or apprenticeship training

13. Job Creation Partnerships (JCP) • JCP financially supports projects that create jobs providing participants with an opportunity to maintain or enhance their employability skills through work experience • JCP participants must be E.I. eligible or Reachback • Interested individuals can check the Service Canada Job Bank for available postings and contact an ES provider for details on how to apply

14. Self-Employment Benefit (SEB) • SEB provides entrepreneurial skills training and support to eligible participants to help them develop and implement their business plan • The SEB funding allows participants to concentrate on building a sustainable business by providing them with financial assistance while they are attending some form of entrepreneurial skills training • SEB participants must be E.I. eligible or Reachback • Interested individuals must meet with an ES provider to complete an ES needs-based service determination
