  1. EXTENDED PARALLEL PROCESS MODEL BY: KRISTINE MARTINEZ

  2. 1st film based off of Suzzane Collins Hunger Games trilogy. Dystopian post-apocalyptic feature in the nation of Panem. 12 districts. 24 tributes. 1 winner. District 12: KatnissEverdeen & PeetaMellark Story follows Katniss & Peeta’s training and struggles in the 74th Hunger Games

  3. EXTENDED PARALLEL PROCESSING MODEL FOUNDED BY KIM WITTE IN 1992. ATTEMPTS TO PREDICT HOW INDIVIDUALS REACH WHEN CONFRONTED WITH FEAR PRODUCTIN STIMULI • PEOPLE EITHER: • CONTROL THE DANGER • CONTROL THEIR FEAR ABOUT THE THREAT 1ST STEP: PERCEIVED SUSCEPTIBILITY ASSES AND ACT UPON THEIR VULNERABILITY OF THE THREAT - Low OR High vulnerability - If high = perceive efficacy Perceive Efficacy  RESPONSE EFFICACY: Individual believes there is a solution to the threat and will act out in means of damage control. SELF-EFFICACY: Individual believes there is a solution to the threat but also believes that they themselves can successfully carry out the solution.

  4. Using the EPPM to Prevent Noise-Induced Hearing Loss Among Coal Miners • Focus group with 31 coal miners • If miners saw hearing loss as a threat what would motivate them to wear hearing protection devices (HPDs)? • EPPM was used to identify the miners’ attitudes, beliefs, knowledge, and behaviors regarding HPDs. • RESULTS • Miners who perceived hearing loss to be a threat and believed HPDs are effective are more likely to control danger. • Miners who were afraid to confront HPDs would not invest time into finding protection.

  5. HUNGER GAMES ANALYSIS The Cave PERCEIVED VULNERABILITY OF THREAT: WILL KATNISS LOSE HER LIFE? - few tributes remain; with one winner allowed Katniss’s chances for surviving are low. - If Katniss loses Peeta, her survival rate will decrease.  High level of vulnerability of threat = Perceived efficacy PERCEIVED EFFICACY RESPONSE EFFICACY: KISSING PEETA - Katniss can increase her chance for surviving by kissing Peeta. - By kissing Peeta, Katniss;’ likability with the audience will increase. Which can result in a lasting life. SELF-EFFICACY: IF KATNISS KISSES PETTA IS SHE CAPABLE OF MAKING THE AUDIENCE BELIEVE HER? - Katniss fully understands the situations and is able to hold back her emotions. This leads us to believe that she is capable of controlling the danger.
