What About the Future? “Employment of psychologists is expected to grow much faster than the average for all occupations through the year 2005.” U.S. Dept. of Labor Beyond that, ask yourself these questions: Is there any evidence that the world is getting “saner?” What are the major challenges that face society?

Psychological Challenges that Face Us in the 21st Century Current leading causes of death have behavioral/lifestyle components Aging population Pollution Racial/ethnic prejudice Conservation/energy consumption Violence in society Education reform Parent training Addiction Relationship stability Coping with technology Training for a changing job market

    14. Western Psychology Program Offer two degrees: B.A. or B.S. in General Psychology B.S. in Personnel Psychology Eight Faculty Members Faculty have excellent credentials and cover all of the major subfields of psychology Solid core curriculum with many elective offerings

To Apply for the Program Complete the following courses*: MAT 112 or higher ENG 104 and 108 PSY 101 and 200 *Note you may still apply if you are enrolled in one or two of these courses during the semester of application. Submit application form and sign-up to write essay on why you want to major in psychology Deadline: October 1 (Fall) or March 1 (Spring)

    16. Entry Into the Major Application is competitive. Department normally accepts 18 students each semester. Students who are accepted have C or better in each of the required courses and minimum overall GPA of 2.0. A student who isn’t accepted may reapply again in later semesters.

    26. Psychology Club and Psi Chi The Psychology Club is an organization open to all students with an interest in psychology. Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology, is open to all Psychology Majors and Minors who meet the appropriate grade-point-average criteria. The purpose of these organizations is to build community and connect students with one another, with the faculty and staff, and with psychology-related activities and opportunities in both the Psychology Department and the entire Western campus.
